WALKERS, joggers and runners clocked up 52 miles for charity.

Volunteers paid Pounds 1 to jump on the treadmill for a one-mile challenge to kickstart their Lent promises and raise funds for the Guideposts Trust.

The Barton Street charity organises social and educational activities for 16 to 29-year-olds with disabilities.

Some 45 people went the distance at the Rivers Gym, Gloucestershire College, Cheltenham, and amassed Pounds 95 for the town’s branch.

Regional community fundraiser Roseann Boyce said: “Everyone makes promises for Lent and more often than not they’re based around keeping fit and being healthy. “So, what better way to start than to challenge yourself and raise some funds for a good cause at the same time? “Most people walked it but the really keen ones sprinted.

“We opened it up to gym members and non-members from 7am to 10pm.”
